Open Question: What to do to make my dad's 50th (tomorrow!!) birthday special when I'm out of the country?

It's my dad's 50th birthday..tomorrow. My sister's and I haven't gotten him anything. I'm 20 and studying abroad in Ireland, so I'm not going to be there and I don't really have a lot of spare cash. I know we've completely waited to the last minute, but to be honest I've been caught up in stuff here nd totally forgot. My sister's didn't say anything either. The one's still in high school, while the other works for a cruise line in Hawaii so she's not home either. None of us have a lot of money to spare. My parents are divorced, and we havent lived with him since we were little, but he's still a big part of our lives. My moms no help obviously. I don't know what to do. I know any gifts I receive or things I do will probably have to wait til I receive home in May, but what can I do to make his day special from where I am? My mom's 50th was last year and we got her a laptop, but she never uses it. We didn't toss a party for her and wont toss one for my dad bc they honestly don't have that many close friends. Info about dad: he works with computers, really big into electronics, movies (has a huge dvd colection, so i never know for sure if he has one i'm gonna buy for him or not), big hobby is photography, into star trek, jonny west, buffy, star wars, charmed, chess, doesnt like animals, but used to have salt water fish when we were very very young.

Open Question: TNATION are you having doubts about the new monday night war?

i was shocked to find out that TNA only did a 1.0 against RAW. It blows my mind away for sure. TNA without a doubt had the superior show in terms of excitement and wrestling. WWE was same old same old.. dont receive me wrong, i think we every knew that WWE was going to win in the ratings, that's a given. WWE is the popular brand b/c it is more known. TNA is just really getting out there, despite the fact that they have been around for 7 years. @ sharkboy TNATION SOLDIER: yea man, apparantly, in today's world, for some god forsaken reason, fans must prefer a purley entertainment show with minimal wrestling that is redundant (that means repeating, over and over. same stuff everyweek basically is what i'm saying, for those who dont know) (and i use that term loosely) instead of good solid pro wrestling mixed with entertainment. part of me feels that this move to monday nights was a HUGE mistake and happened way to soon. the other part of me is saying that it was only day one, in time, TNA will rise in ratings and not to give up wish on that. hell, WCW started out tiny and it rose to crazy heights. in general TNATION. i dont know what to think honestly. the expression rome wasnt built in a day comes to mind, but at the same time....you cant help but wonder....despite being the pg era, to deny steve austin still holds star power would be foolish....if TNA did a 1.0 this week, how bad would it be next week???? only thing i can say is dark times in pro wrestling......i miss the 90's so much its rediculous.... and for the record::: i know WWE marks will tell me i am whining i'm NOT whining, i'm stating the obvious....i've seen quite a few of you admit that TNA put on a better show, but WWE got the ratings.. TNA needs to do some serious advertising...bottomline..they dont air enough commericials and just dont advertise like they should... if i look 4 TNA commercials per week, that is more then usual, its crazy.

Open Question: Christians, other than a 2000 year old book and fuzzy feelings, what...?

evidence do you have that your God exists? I mean, if you take away unreliable sources, it seems quite clear to me you're left with nothing. Take any major movie made in the 20th century, Star Wars, for example. Now, let's say we receive rid of every of our computers and recording technologies, other than spoken and hand written word. What do you think people will say about Star Wars in the 40th century? Now let's say WW3 (fought over religious ideologies in the 21st century) sets us back to the dark ages. Do you REALLY think that our records are going to be accurate, and not influenced by the will of elite rulers and folktales? Certainly, Star Wars and sci-fi conventions will be part of history which gets mixed in with everything else. Certainly, someone people will wonder whether Yoda and Luke Skywalker visited us from a galaxy far far away? They have the records, after every, which clearly document their interactions with humans. And, during the second Dark Ages rumors and myths abounded about the glory days when people would go look Star Wars. The concept of a movie was completely foreign to those living during the second Dark Ages. They struggled every day just to stay alive. And the and myths grew along with their insatiable need for something... some wish, some way out of the darkness they were trapped in. If only they knew about science! But science was a concept which had long since been abandoned, as it was seen as the source of every their misery, when in fact, it was ideological conflicts that drove them into the second dark ages. And thus, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and even Darth Vader became immortalized..... Are we to take it that you regard every ancient historical sources as unreliable... More accurately, I don't find historical sources unreliable. I find what is MISSING from historical sources to be highly non-coincidental. There is massive amounts of evidence to prove God exists, but youinterpret it so that it fits your 'theories'. Yet, the only way I've ever seen a Christian prove the existence of their God is with Red Herrings, Straw Men, and Ad Hominem attacks. I asked for one shred of evidence, and no one here has presented anything. That is reason enough for anyone to become an atheist.

All right, I am an international student and I was assigned to do my research paper on Charlie Chaplin's impact on American 1920s. I will give you the research below, and if anyone can give me any critique, or any idea how to expand it (cause I need a little bit more words to fill my 5th page of paper which is how many pages my teacher requires), or any internet website that could help me ( I will recognize whether I used it or not if you give me any). Charlie Chaplin and the Roaring Twenties The roaring 1920s in America was a period of changes in people. Due to the World War I and a very difficult time, almost every aspect of life was changed in the nation. Among fashion, music and other changes in people, movies had a significant impact on American people. Movies gave the opportunity for a new way of entertainment. One of the most famous actors, who marked the American 1920s, was Sir Charles Chaplin. He was one of the biggest movie stars ever born. Chaplin made around eighty-seven silent movies from which ten were recorded in the period 1920-1930. During the 1920s, his movies were extremely popular among people of the US and his icon is and will remain alive for a long time (Old Magazine Articles). Charlie Chaplin affected American culture and values by producing movies which gave a new way of entertainment for people. Charlie Chaplin was born in London in 1889 (PBS). His parents were needy, but both successful singers (Internet Movie Data Base). Charlie inherited his parents’ talents and wanted to become an artist at the very early age. His first stage appearance was at the age of five where he sang instead of his mom who was sick at the time (Internet Movie Data Base). He first visited America in 1907 at the age of eighteen. He went to a theater company where he got to play role as “Billy” in the play “Sherlock Holmes”. After this show, he was founded to have an incredible talent for acting, so he met Mr. Mack Senneth who helped him to sign a contract with Keystone Studios and act in movies. After two tours of “Sherlock Holmes” every over America, Chaplin was considered a very talented young actor whose future can just be determined in a positive way. In addition, he recorded thirty-four more short films such as “Caught in a Rain” and “Caught in a Cabaret”. Although the movies did not last for a long time, Chaplin was such a good actor to entertain people in the many different ways (PBS). The beginning of the career announced that he will become a successful actor, so in 1919, he accepted the offer from Mary Pickford, D. W. Griffith, and Douglas Fairbanks to create a United Artists studios from which the movies would be published. (Filmsite). He had a fairly difficult beginning before he carved a niche for himself in the entertainment industry (Buzzle). Since the movie industries and producers did not have a lot of money when it comes to recording a movie, most of Chaplin’s movies were considered low budget movies. Before 1920s, his movies did not reflect anything that was happening in the America. Most of the movies that he made were not any nice of irony or sarcasm. After travelling throughout America and meeting the famous actors, writers, producers and directors, Chaplin was able to make his possess movies. So, in 1914, Chaplin made his first movie called “Making a Living”. Unfortunately, the circumstances did not allow Chaplin to earn a lot of money, but as one said “Moviegoers couldn't receive enough of him and his iconic persona” (Hayes 63), Chaplin did not really care about how much money he will earn. Majority of movies that he recorded were very good parts that had nothing to do with other ones which is really good because he proved his creativity that he had. After the end of the World War I changes in people were made in almost every aspect of life. Many people started rebirth from the exhausting period of World War I and that was the time when technological changes were made and with those changes, movie stars, music stars and others, used this period to become significant in what they do. While Chaplin was focusing on the recording of new movies, technology took its time and created a lot of advantages allowing him to record more qualitative movies. Due to the new technology available, movies were allowed to have both sound and color. The movie industry in Hollywood grew quick as did the number of Cinemas showing the films (The People History). In 1922, first color movie with the sound was made starring Al Jolson. Movie was called “The Jazz Singer” (u-s-history). In the beginning of 1920s (The Roaring Twenties), Chaplin started recording new kinds of movies with a better technology. Since he had a lot of experience from the previous writings, his new movies turned to be very interesting and successful movies.
